1.) What services does Cedar-Rapids.net provide?
Cedar-Rapids.net serves clients in all aspects of networking services. This includes dial-up access, ISDN, DSL, T1, and T3 connections, etc. For current services, please see our services list.
2.) Do I need software to utilize cedar-rapids.net services?
No software is required to use cedar-rapids.net services. For our DSL customers, there is a CD included with the modem which is to easily allow DSL installation by the customer themselves. If you need any help connecting to Cedar-Rapids.net, please contact us at 319-665-6555.
3.) What do I need to connect via dialup to Cedar-Rapids.net?
All you need to connect via dialup to Cedar-Rapids.net is a properly functioning modem for your computer, a phone line running from your computer to the phone jack, a username, a password, and the phone number to dial. The last three items can be obtained by calling Cedar-Rapids.net support staff at 319-665-6555.

4.) Where can I check my dialup usage?
For our dialup customers, an online tool is available to check your time usage. Login using your dialup username and password to check your usage.

5.) I've received an email supposedly from Com-Link or Cedar-Rapids.net Staff. Is it legitimate?
Unless you had been corresponding with us previously regarding a similar issue, the email is only legitimate if signed with a specific name of one of our staff, and a phone number that you can reach us at. We will never sign a generic "Support" name, or include an attachment in an email, unless we discussed it with you previously.

6.) My computer keeps disconnecting itself, how can I change that?
If your computer disconnects itself when you open up Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, you simply need to change a few settings in those programs. For Internet Explorer, navigate to the Tools menu, and choose 'Internet Options'. Click the 'Connections' tab, and 'dialup settings'. Here, there are three options: Always dial this connection, Dial when no network is present, and never dial a connection. We recommend "Dial when no network is present."
7.) How fast is DSL?
DSL is available in several different speeds. Please contact us at 319-665-6555 for speeds that are available in your area. Our standard residential service is 256K, download and upload speeds. However, we do provide faster connections up to 1.5Mbps.
8.) Is DSL available in my area?
We can qualify you for DSL by your address, or your phone number. Your address must be close to a telco central office (CO) to qualify for DSL, otherwise the signal quality is degraded significantly.

9.) Do I need a telephone line for DSL?
DSL signals travel across a phone line, so a phone line is required. However, actual phone service is not required, although having a Qwest phone line does drop the price of the DSL package. Prices for Stand-Alone DSL (DSL with no phone service) can be found here.

10.) What do I need to connect via DSL to Cedar-Rapids.net?
To connect to Cedar-Rapids.net via DSL, you will need a login and a password, and the DSL modem package sent to you. The username and password can be obtained from Cedar-Rapids.net support at 319-665-6555.
11.) What can I do if my DSL stops working?
If your DSL is not functioning, first try power-cycling the DSL modem/router. This just means removing the power plug from the modem for at least 60 seconds, before plugging the modem/router back in. Power-cycling usually resets and reconnects the modem to our servers without problem. If you have tried this several times, please contact Cedar-Rapids.net support staff at 319-665-6555.
12.) Does Cedar-Rapids.net provide static IPs, or dynamic IPs?
Most of our clients use dynamic IPs. However, if you require a static IP, they are available. Please let the Cedar-Rapids.net staff member you speak with know that you'd like a static IP.

13.) What email addresses are available to customers?
Cedar-Rapids.net email addresses are available for our Cedar Rapids area based clientele.

14.) What email programs can I use with my cedar-rapids.net email address?
You can use most email programs available for your cedar-rapids.net email address. Popular choices include Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora, and Macintosh Mail. If you have any questions setting up your email in your favorite email program, please don't hesitate to contact us for help.
15.) What are the POP3 and SMTP servers for Cedar-Rapids.net?
Both the POP3 and SMTP servers for Cedar-Rapids.net are 'mail.cedar-rapids.net'

16.) To setup my email through my email client, what information do I need?
You will need the following information to setup email in an email client, such as Microsoft Outlook Express, or Eudora. You will need your account/user name, which is your full email address (i.e., yourname@cedar-rapids.net). You will also need your password, an incoming POP3 mail server address, and an outgoing SMTP mail server address. Both the POP3 and the SMTP servers for Cedar-Rapids.net are mail.cedar-rapids.net. We do use smtp authentication, if your client asks for that information. When that information is entered, you should be ready to email!

17.) How can I access my cedar-rapids.net email while travelling?
Do you offer webmail service?
Cedar-Rapids.net offers a webmail service where you can view your emails while away from your usual computer or on travel. The webmail can be reached through a web browser at http://mail.cedar-rapids.net. The login is your full email address, and your password. New emails, and emails left on the server will be available here. Here you can compose and read new mail, and also change your password and your display name
(Note: Most email programs delete messages from the server once they've been downloaded. Please don't be surprised that all messages are not there).
18.) How do I change my email password?
You can change your email password through the webmail client, or call one of our support staff members at 319-665-6555. You reach the webmail page by going to http://mail.cedar-rapids.net. Once logged in, a drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the mail window contains options for you to set. One of these options is 'Password'. Here it will prompt you for your old password, followed by your new password. If you can not remember your password, you will need to contact Cedar-Rapids support staff at 319-665-6555.

19.) How can I get my own webpage?
Cedar-Rapids.net provides web hosting for personal use. If you prefer, you can register a domain name with us, and host the domain name on our machines. However, space if available for your personal website on our machines at 'www.cedar-rapids.net/yourusername' as well, if you prefer not to have your own domain name.

20.) My site is hosted with you, how can I access and edit it?
We offer connections to edit your website via FTP or FrontPage Extensions. The type of access was chosen when the domain was setup with us, and your login and password were provided. If you can not remember these, please contact our support staff at 319-665-6555.
21.) Can I access my other email addresses with Cedar-Rapids.net service?
Yes, you can. Cedar-Rapids.net provides complete internet service, so you can access your AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo, or any other email provider you use.

Tech Support for your internet connection related services is included with your service with us.
